Northern Land Council (NLC) is committed to protecting the privacy of your personal information. This policy explains how the NLC collects and utilises your personal information when you seek an NLC access permit to Aboriginal land and water through the NLC’s Permit Administration System (PAS) (Site). Personal Information

We use personal information provided directly from you through the PAS for the purposes of managing permit administration, compliance and enforcement and supporting traditional Aboriginal owners in visitor management.

• information you provide to us through your applications, requests, feedback, incident reports, and customer surveys
• names, date of birth, and contact details (address, phone and email) of people on the permit,
• your credit card details
• your browser session (browser, device, location and network data) and statistics on browsing behaviour
• additional personal information that you provide to us, directly or indirectly, through your use of the PAS; and
• any other personal information requested by us and/or provided by you or a third party.

We may collect these types of personal information directly from you or from third parties. The PAS does not collect sensitive information.

We may collect, hold, use and disclose personal information for the following purposes:

• to enable you to access and use the PAS;
• to contact and communicate with you;
• for internal record keeping and administrative purposes and legislative requirements;
• for analytics, market research and development, including to operate and improve the PAS and improve our services;
• to offer additional benefits to you;
• for advertising and marketing, including to send you promotional information about our services and information about third parties that we consider may be of interest to you;
• to comply with our legal obligations and resolve any disputes that we may have;
• to share with enforcement and emergency agencies, if required.

Disclosure to third parties

The information you provide through the PAS is not sold or given to third-parties unless required by law or in emergency situations or otherwise in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). We may disclose personal information to:

• our employees, contractors and/or related entities;
• our existing or potential agents, service providers or business partners;
• enforcement and emergency agencies;
• third party service providers for the purpose of enabling them to provide their services, including (without limitation) IT service providers, professional advisors and payment systems operators;
• anyone to whom our functions (or any part of them) are, or may (in good faith) be, transferred;
• courts, tribunals, regulatory authorities and law enforcement officers, as required by law, in connection with any actual or prospective legal proceedings, or in order to establish, exercise or defend our legal rights;
• third parties, including agents or service providers, who assist us in providing information, products, services or direct marketing to you;
• third parties, who collect and process data, such as Google Analytics, which stores data outside of Australia.

Where we disclose your personal information to third parties, we will request that the third party handle your personal information in accordance with this Site Privacy Policy.

Storage and security

We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure. In order to prevent unauthorised access or disclosure, we have put in place suitable physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online.

This Site contains secure areas indicated by a padlock symbol in the browser. NLC transmits private information by encrypting the data transferred over the Internet using a standard SSL protocol. (This standard is used by many websites when you submit confidential information, such as credit card numbers and other personal data).

Cookies, by themselves, do not tell us your email address or other personally identifiable information. However, they do allow third parties, such as Google and Facebook, to cause our advertisements to appear on your social media and online media feeds as part of our retargeting campaigns.
